The Town of Frederick celebrated the 10th annual Miners Day Festival on Saturday September 15th. From a parade through town in the morning to fireworks at night, the Miners Day Festival is always a full day of fun-filled activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Frederick was incorporated in 1907 by three young women who named the town after their father Frederick A. Clark, the landowner of the site now known as Frederick. In its early days, Frederick was a mining town that was home to mostly Italian immigrants who came to the area to make their living in the coal mines. Paid $2.00 a day for their dangerous work, miners are often the forgotten heroes of Colorado’s history, and Miners Day is a celebration to remember them.

As this year marks the 10th annual Miners Day Celebration, there was a mix of beloved favorites along with a variety of new activities to make this year’s celebration the largest one yet. Over 5,000 people enjoyed the day starting with the parade that included specialty cars, marching bands, and floats as well as the El Jebel Shrine which had over 100 people participating. Throughout the afternoon, showcase, exhibitor, and craft booths featured new displays in Crist Park including a quad bungee trampoline, a dunk tank provided by That Place, bingo provided by Carbon Valley Rotary in D’Agostino’s and a car show on 5th St. near Crist Park by the Rebel Rodders Car Club as well as a craft beer tent sponsored by Frederick brewery Echo Brewing. Food and refreshments were served throughout the day, in addition to food eating contests where the winners ate 27 Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets and 11 hot dogs to claim victory. Live entertainment from the main stage included Fourever Fab, a Beatles tribute band, New Sensation, an 80s cover band and country music act the Kory Brunson Band along with performances from local dance, martial arts and gymnastics groups. Miners Day concluded with a spectacular evening concert by the nationally-acclaimed band Firefall followed by a vibrant fireworks display sponsored by Stevinson Lexus of Frederick.
