Gather your friends & family members and get ready to throw a fun and (mostly) effortless 4th of July party! To help get your creative juices flowing, we’ve put together some ideas for decorating, tips for the perfect tent, entertainment ideas and delicious recipes. Ready to kick off the summer in style?
Party Decoration: Watermelon Carve-Outs
Almost everyone loves cold, refreshing watermelon on a hot summer day. Use this natural canvas to your advantage and consider carving one, similar to a pumpkin. Make a sweet statement using stencils and a sharp knife to create a unique & festive centerpiece for the snack table!
Party Decoration: Star Spangled Banner (Sort of)
Go to your nearest craft store and purchase blue & red tagboard as well as blue & red glitter paint. An alternative to this is getting clear-drying glue & plain glitter. Cut out an equal number of stars from each board (consider using the first one as a guide for the rest). Then coat the stars with your glitter paint (or glue/glitter mix) for added pizzazz. Use a hole puncher to add a hole at the top and string onto red, white & blue ribbon. Hang the garland either at the entrance of the party or above the food table – somewhere that people will see!
Party Games: Make Your Own Tic-Tac-Toe Board
Whether you’re planning a party for adults & kids or even adults only, party games are a must. Make your own tic-tac-toe board by cutting a 20-inch square from a painter’s tarp or an old picnic blanket. Use duct tape to mark squares and add some weight. Get creative with what to use as markers – different colored beanbags, seashells marked with colors, shoes – anything will work as long as there’s the same amount of each color!
Party Activity: Bring The Beach To You
As a land-locked state, Coloradans don’t see the beach often. So why not bring the “beach” to your 4th of July party this summer? Fill a plastic kids pool with sand (most hardware stores have plenty to go around) and be sure to provide shovels and buckets to make sand castles. Both kids and adults will appreciate seeing sand in the summer sun.
Party Activity: Sparklers
While fireworks may not always be accessible, sparklers are a fun (and safe) way to make your 4th of July party extra special. Bundle them in festive red, white & blue ribbons and pass them out to the entire party just as the sun is going down. Consider taking time-lapse or extended-exposure photos to capture this special moment!
Party Treats: Fruit Kabobs
Rather than setting out greasy potato chips or hot finger foods, provide your guests with a fresh assortment of sweet melon kabobs. Use all different kinds of fruits like cantaloupe, water melon, honeydew, strawberries, etc. Skip the expensive bowl & consider using half of a watermelon to hold your kabobs up instead. Looking to really spice it up? Find mini cookie cutters in different shapes like stars and circles and triangles to use to shape your fruit.
Party Treats: Berry Tarts
Add even more color to your 4th of July menu with berry tarts! Use a variety of raspberries, strawberries and blueberries to create playful and patriotic tarts. To really “wow” your guests, drizzle with fresh honey-mint syrup!
Party Activity: Dunk Tank
